Osun State Government, through the Ministry of Federal Affairs, has distributed six hundred bags of NPK fertilizers donated to the state through the help of an Osun indigene, who doubles as the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mr. Abel Enitan,to women farmers across the State.
Speaking during the programme, Commissioner for Federal Affairs, Hon. Adenike Adeleke who lauded Governor Adeleke 's passion for food security said, the distribution was borne out of the need to empower farmers particularly women.
Hon.Adeleke said the free fertilizer distribution is a significant milestone of Governor Ademola Adeleke led administration in its efforts at supporting Agriculture in Osun state.
She enjoined the beneficiaries which cut across all farmers in the thirty Local Governments and Area Offices in Osun to use the fertilizers for the purposes meant for. it is intended for.
In their separate remarks, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of federal affairs, Mr. Adelani Aderinola and his counterpart from the Ministry of Agric and food security, Mr.Moruf Olawale, commended the State government's efforts in it's on going efforts at making Osun the food basket of the nation.
They also commended the Commissioner,Hon.(Mrs) Adeleke for being a good representative of the state at the federal level, which birthed the free distribution of fertilizers to the beneficiary people.
Speaking on behalf of other Farmers in attendance,the State Coordinator, Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progressive and Development Initiative, Alhaja Ibrahim Idayat,
Chairman Cassava Growers Association of Nigeria,Mr David Ogunsade, Chairman, Association of Food Processing and Federation of Agric Commodities, pastor Adewoye Samuel, expressed joy towards the government's good gesture which they described as a gesture aimed at enhancing food sufficiency in the state.
